Our History

New Orleans Bell Telephone Employees Federal Credit Union was originally chartered in 1935. In the beginning, the Credit Union served employees of Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, American Telephone and Telegraph Company and the Western Electric Company in New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout the years, this original charter served the Credit Union well until the gradual yet steady downsizing of this employee group took effect. Thereafter, the Credit Union converted its name to Greater New Orleans Federal Credit Union in order to reflect its changing membership as it continued to take on separate employee groups.

Today, GNO Federal Credit Union is a full service financial institution with over $84 million in assets serving 13,000 members. Our membership is comprised of our original field of membership – the communications industry – and other select employee groups, or business partner companies, throughout the New Orleans metro area.
